One World - One Heart 2009

Welcome all to my corner of Bloglandia!

It is time once again for One World One Heart.

This is the third annual blog-wide giveaway hosted by Lisa Oceandreamer Swifka. According to her, "The original idea behind this was to bring bloggers together from around the world who may never ordinarily meet. It closes the gap of the blog community and enables us to interact, discover new and wonderful people." Here is her intention: "The blogging world is vast with more created all the time....and through blogging we can learn new things, read about other countries, learn of new ways to promote those vital issues, support causes as well as learn about new artists, writers, photographers, et al. By having a list of those with a giveaway it is like a home tour with a map......going from place to place to see how others "live" and perhaps along the way make fabulous new connections and maybe win a door prize in the process."

A wonderful plan! I traveled far and near last year and have made connections that I treasure. For those that have not traveled here from the main site, clicking the badge above (or on my side bar) will take you to home base where there are hundreds of participating blogs. They will be left up for the better part of the year, so you may take your time browsing the treasure trove!

Last years theme for me was about dreams. This year it's all about wishes! Wishes are rather just the waking manifestations of our dreams - no?

As we inaugurate our 44th President, Barack Obama, here in the United States, we are full of hope for the future. I wish for him wisdom to make the decisions he must in the coming years. I wish for him the support he needs to make things happen. I wish for him safety in his journey. I wish for him blessings for his family.

I also wish prosperity, creativity, health, and peace to all my fellow bloggers.

When you hear the word wishes, what images come to mind for you? Any wish making traditions? I love when people comment here. I know I have made a connection with someone, and that is so special. Of course this type of event is rather like having a captive audience, but I can't wait to see what your thoughts are! So let's hear about wishes...

Is it about blowing out your birthday candles?
Releasing dandelion seeds?
Snapping the wish bone from the Thanksgiving turkey with your little brother?

Let's hear it!

Also, I've talked before here about Make A Wish. Their motto is that they "grant the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy" Wishes take the form of "I wish to Be", "I wish to Go", "I wish to Meet", "I wish to Have". It is a wonderful organization. I'm excited that the young women of Chi Omega Fraternity at John Carroll are very close to being able to grant a wish. I would love to help them get there! You can help me.

Please share your thoughts on wishes in the comment section below. By doing so, you will accomplish the following:

for each unique poster, I will donate $1.00 to Make a Wish (up to $150.00, which would more than double my hits from last year!)
infuse me with inspiration to create a wish book for a lucky winner! (do you enjoy how I am providing a clever diversion from you noticing my not actually having the piece made yet!?) I plan to create a small book of mixed media, photos, and fun with places to add secret wishes. With all the good karma of One World One Heart they are sure to come true!
possibly even BE the lucky winner!

Some important details:

To be eligible for the drawing, post here (specifically in THIS post) by midnight February 11th. Please be sure not to comment anonymously - how can you win If I don't know who you are? You do not need to have a blog, but gee, why don't you? It's tons of fun! International participants are welcomed! Selection of a winner will be completed using a random number generator. Winner will be announced February 12th. I will contact you, but you are welcome to stop back and see the prize!

So stay and visit a while if you'd like, use the side bar list to poke around and see the sites: my jewelry (BlingBling), Art Journal (MyArtJournal), or maybe papercrafts, cards, or scrapbooking is your style? (ScrapPaperScissors) I've been trying many new avenues for creativity!

Jump on the Gypsy Caravan - I wish for you new friends, new inspirations, and new adventures!

What a wonderful giveaway :)

I always make a wish when I see a falling star. One of my favourite childhood songs is "When you wish upon a star", I still love that song very much.

I LOVE you idea! My cousins daughter died 2 years ago of CF, and she was able to have a wish from Make A Wish, so it is an amazing organization. I applaud you for your donation! Thank you for helping us help these kids!!!
If you end up making something, I would love to be entered, and if not, just make a donation with my cousins daughter's memory in mind.
Thanks!

This is a wonderful give-away.
I think Make A Wish is one of the best.

When my kids were small each night before their went to bed we would check the skies for
Stars.. When the first star was spotted, we would recite this poem.

Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.

Then a wish would be made.

It's funny because both are in college now, but every once in awhile
I will hear my daughter recite this poem..

We also love bubbles in our house.

A bubble carries your wishes to the fairies…and when it pops the fairies will hear your heart’s desires…

Louise

As much as I love and believe in wishing (on a falling star, throwing money in a wishing well, the wishbone of a turkey, finding a 4 leaf clover for luck, etc.), I LOVE being able to grant wishes. I believe in this so much, I created a website dedicated to just that wishing and granting wishes. Now, people have a place to post actual items they are wishing for and people can grant them. We no longer just need to throw them out into the universe, we can use people power. I just love my title Wish Grantor too - how many of us can claim that title in an organization!
Thanks for donating a $1 to make-a-wish (they are some of the best Wish Grantors around), so I had to post my comment. I'll be sure to pay your kindness forward. I'll be a regular on your blog - I love it when people love wishing and being kind (as you do).
Cheers,

Would love to be one of the reasons for your charity towards the Make-a-Wish foundations - They do brilliant work in my country, India, as well.
We're a culture of hope and dreams, so it is but natural that we have 'days' for our wishes! specific days for specific material and spiritual wishes (such as money or wisdom), days for specific people to wish for (family, husbands, siblings).
And even if it does sound corny, most of our prayers end in wishes for world peace!

Oh, what a lovely thing to do! I am charmed by the idea of the wish book, and think it is awesome that you are donating money to "Make a Wish"!

My thoughts on wishes.... I guess they're sort of skewed right now, because all I truly wish for is something that's not possible. I just lost my granddad a few weeks ago, and I'm still pretty emotionally raw. I guess I wish for peace. I wish to feel like my grandmother's going to be ok. I wish....

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer. :) Really, I do wish for lots of good things. I'm just sort of stuck in the sad these days, is all. But a wish book would certainly brighten my day!!

Please do feel free, too, to stop by my blog to enter my own OWOH giveaway. :)

I wish for lots of things, most of them too trivial to mention. But the thing I wish for most is for happy healthy children and grandchildren.

One time I was telling a friend who was going through a difficult struggle that things would get better in time. She said, "You promise?" And I said, "I promise." My hubby overheard this bit of the conversation, and later told me that you can't promise things unless you are able to make it happen...otherwise it is just giving false hope. I right then committed to be the kind of friend that she needed in order to make sure that things did get better for her. And you know, being a friend is all it took...someone to talk to, someone to cry with and laugh with...that is all she needed to get help her see her way forward.

I think this is kind of what Make a Wish does. They can't make these kids well, but they can give a smile, a day of fun, an adventure, or that one thing that would bring a little joy and comfort into a world turned upside down.

My niece's daughter fought for 16 years to beat Cystic Fibrosis and lost her battle two years ago last week while awaiting a double lung transplant. A few years before that Make a Wish had granted her a wish and it really made things so much better for her.

What a great organization, and what a great thing you are doing. We too give to them to help in their effort to help kids. Bless you for what you are doing.

OK, I did not read the other comments, but I'm going to after I post mine. I love to make wishes and I may just find new reasons to do so after I read what others have said. :)

I wish on falling stars, when I'm lucky enough to see one! I wish on eye lashes that come out and stick to my cheek (or anyone else's cheek that I'm near enough to touch). I wish on birthday candles.

Now, this one I made up myself, but it works for me and it makes me feel great -- in the dead of winter, when it's all dead and grey outside (especially in Jan. and Feb.) I wish on male cardinals when I see them! Then I say a little prayer of thanks.

My inspiration is my niece, Taylor, who passed away on May 15, 2007 at the age of 14. Her dad, my brother, is heavily involved with Make-a-Wish in Michigan. Team Taylor, my brother's bike team, raised over $56,000 last year to grant sick kids' wishes. http://www.rideteamtaylor.com/. I love that you are doing this in honor of kids everywhere.

when my children were little I had a little round padded box with tiny chinese dolls on it and a lid. I think it was a pin cushion and other stuff could be put inside. anyway, we called it the "wish box" and my boys could leave there wishes in there, or sometimes, when they opened it, there would be a surprise in there for them. i totally had forgotten about that!
i still wish on stars.

Your mention of the wishbone reminded me of how we used to save wishbones (chicken as well as turkey) to dry so that they'd snap more easily. We had a nail on the kitchen cupboard to hang them on, and sometimes we'd end up with half a dozen hanging there before we made wishes with them.

Wow, what an original givewaway... You seem to be a very kind person, with a huge heart.
I'd only say one thing: among all the wishes, I'd be extremely pleased if each of us had the mental power to feel happy. Whether poor or not, ill or not, well, I think happiness is something that helps bearing whatever life can bring to us.

Anyway, many thanks to you, have a nice day!

Ah, wishes. In thinking to answer your question, I realized just how wish-y I am. I subconciously make a wish every candle I blow out not just my birthday. I am several times a week reciting star light, star bright with my little one who at the end when he makes his wish, blows like he is blowing out a candle :)) We do every wish bone & I always end up with the kiss the first person who comes in the door part. We blow dandilion puffs & make wishes on necklace clasps that get turned back around. I say a silent Hail Mary every time I hear a ambulance siren, which is a wish for someones Mother, or child to be ok. I too wish for the success of President Obama - I believe in the America he envisions. After responding to your question with a novel, I will finish with one last wish, to get a surprise email on Febuary 12th :))

not sure this is "original" but I always liked to wish on a dandelion when you blow the fluff away. I would take a deep breath and hold it while I thought my wish then blow the fluffy seeds away. even if I didn't get my wish the
dandelion did.

Christine said...

I love your idea. As life goes on, you don't think to wish on the first star of the night. Quite frankly, I'm seldom outside to see the first star. In the summer of 2007, I was in Utah living at my sisters house waiting for a heart transplant. I would take my puppy out each night as the sun was going down and wish not only for a successful heart transplant but for blessings healing for the family that would be suffering a great loss in order for me to get the new heart.

I would love to be entered in your giveaway. Thanks for participating in OWOH. It's so much fun seeing all of the blogs.

I cannot find words at first, I'm touched of such a loveable idea with this wishing-book!!! Really. You are a dear and creative person!
My wish is harmony. Because harmony is balance an that means, everything is quite ok inside (and outside): family, job, hobby, life, everything at all. And if not everything, you have the power to manage it the best way if you have harmony inside. Harmony for everyone. And the world will be better.
I'd like to enter your draw from Hungary. It would be great winning a hat full of positive energy.

Best regards.

What a fantastic idea all around!

I always make silent wishes--on birthday candles, shooting stars, at 11:11, wishbones, etc. I do kind of adhere to the idea that wishes have a better chance of coming true if you keep them to yourself, so the idea of having a wish book is totally intriguing! Thank you so much for this giveaway! :)
